The rain started gently as I took my first sips of coffee. I could hear a thousand droplets begin to fall, a thousand chimes ringing against the roof above my head.
Without even deciding to, I found myself walking out the door, coffee mug still in hand, head uplifted to the opening sky.
I felt a thousand reminders to be alive touching my face, waking me up more than the coffee ever could.
I said to each of the thousand rain drops: wash away everything in me untrue, everything I no longer need, everything that stands between me and the blessings this day holds in her open, giving hands.
I don’t know how long I stood there, baptized and born again, until the thousand droplets turned to hundreds and then to dozens.
And then, sunshine.
