Birthright to the Light {Poem}

We all must find our way

through the deep indigo of night,

as we cross cold fields where

wildflowers once grew.

We may not decide

the distance to dawn,

but the choices we make

in our crossing

are always our own.

We can always find emptiness

when we close tight

our palms.

We can always find fear

when our eyes are set

on scaring us.

The real bravery in this world

is to make our way through

every darkness

while never forgetting

our birthright

to the light.

Of all that you might dare,

dare to be happy -

an unrepentant

bearer of brightness

even when all other stars

are too ashamed to shine.
